About Christiantiy
Christianity is formed on the backbone of the stories of the 'son of god', Jesus Christ, who sacrificed himself for the good of humanity.
Christianity is the heart of the main church which split into different faction around the world to give us the christian denomination of Catholicism, Pentecostalism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Protestantism, e.t.c. who follow the same main beliefs of the new testament of the bible and the sacraments of baptism and the last supper. Christians all believe in the basic principles of Jesus being the Son of God, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and that one day the Messiah will return to judge the living and the dead. Over all, the Christian Religions make up over 2.4 billion people on earth, being the largest religious family in the world. The Roman Catholic Church founded in the 1st century, portrays itself as the one legitimate heir to New Testament Christianity, and the pope as the successor to Peter, the first bishop of Rome. As the Roman Empire fell and the rise of the Christian faith around the world began the power of the growing church was transferred from one entity to the other. The emperors sought to increase their authority by granting privileges to various bishops, resulting in disputes about primacy within the churches. This led to groups of individuals reforming the faith to create new denominations around the world including Pentecostalism, the Church of England and Lutheranism throughout the ages. |
